WHAT WILL YOU BE SUPPORTING?

A  purpose-built contemporary circus centre to house Flipside, and provide space and support to Queensland’s world beating circus artists and companies.

Created from modular, pre-fabricated materials, shipping containers, the Brisbane Circus Centre combines form and function, design and utility to create an iconic building that is uniquely circus.

The Brisbane circus centre will allow Flipside to more effectively support the local circus ecology. It will raise the visibility of circus and help develop young artists. It will attract new participants, new audiences, and new collaborations, and further develop Queensland’s circus culture.

WHO WILL BENEFIT?

  • Children and young people

Over 43,348 young people participated in Flipside programs in 2019;

  • Brisbane and Queensland’s world beating circus artists

Over 1,000 artists trained, created, rehearsed, and presented at our training space in 2019;

  • Audiences

Over 1 million people have seen a Flipside show in the last 20 years – help us reach another million!

Over 55,000 people passed through Flipside’s training centre doors in 2019 – when fully functioning, around 110,000 people will visit the new centre.

What is the need?

The construction of the centre will significantly reduce Flipside’s accommodation costs while becoming more sustainable. This will strengthen the company’s financial position and provide for greater investment in communities and programs.

Why Flipside?

Flipside delivers the highest quality child-centred circus training and performance opportunities to all young people regardless of their circumstances, and provide leadership to the sector at large through employment and collaboration.

Who is supporting this project?

The Australian Government has invested $1M in the project through the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Cities and Regional Development’s Community Development Grants Program.

Flipside Circus also received $290,000 through Arts Queensland’s Strategic Infrastructure Fund.

Economic Development Queensland (EDQ) in securing a non-commercial lease for our new school.

YOU – Our community is the backbone of this project. We are just $200 K to reach our budget and we can’t do it without you.

WHAT OUR COMMUNITY SAYS

TESTIMONIALS

Flipside fills a fundamental and necessary role in this industry that allows the propagation of new emerging artists, new art, and new ideas.

Having a purpose built dedicated space of their own is key to their growth and I believe vital to the sectors growth also.

Alex Mizzen

From the age of 10 through to even now as a 24-year-old professional circus performer Flipside has always been the organisation to support me. I have performed on stages all around the world representing Queensland artists globally and am still reliant on it now for my career.

David Trappes

Specialist spaces to make quality contemporary circus shows are difficult to come by.
Spaces like Flipside gives us independent artists the ability to train, create and make work.
Having a base or a creative home like Flipside has given Casus the ability to create freely. Proudly much of our work that was born in Flipside grace stages all around the world.
