Anna Yen
Anna Yen is a director, performer, movement teacher, theatre maker, and community artist. Anna directed/facilitated the development of: Stuffed Up (Griffith Uni 2010); Emma Miller Stands for Peace and Freedom (Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom) 2010; Other-wise (Under the Radar 2009); Dimboola (UQ 2009); TABOO (Amnesty International /QUT/ Vena Cava 2008), Stop Violence Against Women Project, Lives and Loves (Ausdance/ECCQ); Manga Metropolis (Backbone Youth Arts); Aviatrix (Vulcana Women’s Circus); co-directed Blissed Out, Distraught and Intoxicated… (Vulcana); and was assistant director on AWGIE award winning Kese Solwata (KITE/QPAC). Anna toured the film adaptation of her one-woman show Chinese Take Away and a short performance excerpt nationally and internationally. Other performance credits include: Karaoke King; Wicked Bodies (Zen Zen Zo); Cravings (Vulcana); Load-Ed Stories (QTC); After China (CINOVA), and with Rock’n’Roll Circus (now Circa). Anna was Artist in Residence for a collaborative performance project between the Chinese and community circus communities in Cairns, 2009. Anna was an invited artist in the Cultural Diversity Cluster that presented UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY at the OzAsia Festival, Adelaide 2007.
Teaching / workshop facilitation includes: Vulcana Women’s Circus (2011-1995); La Boite Professional Development for Teachers 2011; Brisbane Playback Theatre Co (2010); Teacher Artist Program, Drama Qld (2010); Calamvale Community College Artist in Residence 2010; Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University-Movement (2009); Interplay Festival (2007); Aboriginal Centre for the Performer Arts (2007), Tasmanian Circus Festival (2009 and 2007); Circus Minimus (2008-05); QUT–Performance Instrument (2004); USQ; University of Qld, QTC’s Theatre Residency Week, Tambo Stock Show, Quilpie Kindergarten, schools and festivals, and PlayMoves-Movement Workshops for Performance in Townsville, Wollongong, Hobart, Melbourne and Brisbane. Anna is a Certified Feldenkrais Method Practitioner. Anna received Best Actor (Female) Queensland Short Film Festival 2006, Matilda Award Special Commendation for her one woman show Chinese Take Away and a Churchill Fellowship 2002.
Jeff Turpin
Jeff Turpin is a performer, musician and a musical director for live performance. His musical skills include woodwind, accordion and guitar, and circus skills include juggling, object manipulation, slackrope and tightrope. He was musical director for Childrens' Activity Groups from 1990 to 1996. He was musical director, performer and musician in 'scam', 'Raradada' in 2001 & 03 in the Ten days on the Island Festival and Slipstream Circus '04. Jeff toured western Canada in 2004 with Barb Dwyer.
Jeff's self devised solo circus works are: 'Sid the Salesman', international tour in 1996 and in 2002, and 'Turpintime' for the Tiny Top, an intimate festival tent theatre, which toured around Australia. As a clown he has performed in Taiwan with 'Los Lunch Dates', and U.K., Brazil, and throughout Australia with Broadway & Co. in 'Eccentric Acts'.
With Broadway and Co, he also taught Actlab, co-devised the performance for the opening of the Australian Museum in 2001, and performed in Circus Monoxide at the Sydney Maritime Museum. Jeff has trained with Philippe Gaulier, Rock'n'Roll Circus 1997 Professional Development Training Program and The Creative Gym.
Maryke del Castillo
Maryke was headed for a career in Osteopathy when she tripped over the Circus. She hasn't stopped falling over, hanging upside down and somersaulting ever since.
Maryke has worked professionally as a physical performer since 2002. She has trained in Dramatic and Circus Arts (1999-2002) and has also worked as an ensemble member for Circa (2005) and Circus Monoxide (2003) and was Head Trainer for Circus WOW (2001-2003) where she directed, choreographed and produced their debut show "What'sHerStory?" (2003). She worked with CahootsNI a children’s theatre company 2007-2009 in UK and performed in the Waterfront Halls Pantomine (UK); Robin Hood 2007/8 and Cinderella 2008/9.
She has performed in theatres, cabarets, in big and little top circuses and Speigel Tents, Opera Houses, in hospitals, on cobbled streets in piazza alleyways, off a crane shaped like a giraffe and on a boat deck. She has recently discovered a passion for making things when she worked as a prop maker for City Fusion’s St Patrick’s Day Festival Project 2009 (Ireland) and The Beat Initiative Easter Parade 2009 (UK).
Ian Wilson
Ian has been working in the world of community, professional and corporate circus for many memorable years. Most recently he’s performing with his kids as Soupcase Circus. His past includes time with Cirkidz, Circus Monoxide, Knack Knats, Circa, Flaming Galah's, Flipside Circus, Warehouse Circus and Golf the Musical to name a few. There have also been many other wonderful circus adventures that bring smiles to his face
