With a solid industry profile balanced by a genuine community focus, Flipside’s professional standing is demonstrated by an impressive performance and training history that includes major Australian festivals and high-profile events.
We engage guest directors for Flipside’s annual performance at the Brisbane Powerhouse. In the past these have included Tony Rooke, Australian National Circus Festival Director, Scott Maidment, Director of Strut and Fret Production House and Australian circus legend Dr Reg Bolton who have all directed shows and performances for Flipside.
Our Artistic Associate, Chelsea McGuffin is a highly regarded contemporary circus artist who is recognised across the arts sector both nationally and internationally for creating ground breaking works. She is passionate, committed and dedicated to circus and the exploration of new works that push the boundaries to which circus as an art form can aspire. She has extensive experience as a performer in the arts industry working across a broad sector and is highly regarded in the industry for her outstanding work. She is a generous performer keen to expand and develop the students at Flipside and open their eyes to the limitless experiences that circus can offer.
Flipside is committed to developing pathways for our students to enter the circus industry as professional artists by ensuring we provide high quality and relevant circus training. We support mentorships with our students with performing artists to encourage and ease the transition into the industry.
Our training staff are circus performers who are well connected and still involved working in the Australian circus industry. This provides our students with extraordinary opportunities and a greater understanding of the industry they are about to embark in.
Flipside also engages circus artists that are ‘passing’ through Brisbane and whose experience and skill can be utilised while they are here.
Our professional activity is balanced through our workshops & community cultural development programmes such as working with refugee and indigenous children across Brisbane schools. Our community programs have performance outcomes to allow ALL students to experience the thrill of performing and cultivate community support.
Flipside is a member of the following organisations:
Australian Circus & Physical Theatre Association
Young People in the Arts Australia
Youth Arts Queensland
